FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you see people in-person?
At this time I'm only providing therapy through Telehealth. It allows me to work with people all over the state, and offers a lot of flexibility for people to prioritize and attend their appointment. I do use HIPAA compliant software through Simple Practice, so your information will be safe. You will receive a unique link to join each appointment as a video call, and sessions are never recorded.
Since it's Telehealth does it matter where I live?
Unfortunately, the way licensing works is that you have to be licensed for each state you work in, and for Telehealth that means the state where the client (you) lives. Right now I am only licensed in New York and Florida, so I can only see people that live in New York or Florida.
For reference, my primary license is in New York and I am licensed as an out-of-state Telehealth provider in Florida. For more information about Florida's out-of-state provider program you can check out: https://flhealthsource.gov/telehealth/
What do we even do in therapy?
Everyone starts with an intake where I get to know you better, and a treatment plan where we decide on some goals about what you want to get out of therapy. From there a lot of it depends on you! We may talk a lot to process things that have happened. We may work on new coping skills, or look at changing how you think about stressful things. We may look at changing how we respond to uncomfortable feelings, consider a new way to look at a big change, or think of some practical solutions. What we do will be a conversation we have together, and it's okay for the answer to change over time.
Do I have to take medication?
The short answer: Nope!
As a clinical social worker, I can't prescribe medication--I'm your person to talk to. That being said, some people find medication helpful. I can coordinate with your doctor or psychiatrist if you are already on medication, and help with referrals if you want to try it out. But medication is not a requirement for therapy, and is a very personal decision.
I'm in crisis right now. What do I do?
If this is a life threatening emergency or crisis, please call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room. You can also call 211 for other crises (like housing or basic needs), and the suicide hotline is 988.
Do you work with kids? How about families or couples?
I only work with adults, ages 18+. I provide individual therapy, although you could include someone in our session on occasion if it's relevant to your individual treatment. For example, if you want support/mediation to share something with your parent or spouse.
Do you only work with medical issues and anxiety?
Chronic medical conditions/pain and anxiety/panic are my specialties, but people are more complex than that. You are a person with an entire lifetime of experiences, and we will work on you as a whole, not just one part of you. I have experience working with many concerns including but not limited to depression, self-harm, self-esteem, women's issues, life changes, and childhood trauma.
